MUSHROOM SPAWN
Improvement of edible Pleurotus mushrooms and creation of a mushroom propagation material ("seed") production unit. DIRFIS MUSHROOMS performed a comparative evaluation (screening) of a large number of Pleurotus ostreatus strains from the Collection of Fungal Cultures maintained by the Laboratory of General and Agricultural Microbiology of the AUA regarding selected biochemical-biotechnological parameters relevant to the objectives of the project (e.g. biomass production, linear mycelium growth rate, production of ligninolytic enzymes, etc.). The experimental procedure investigated the growth ability of Pleurotus strains to colonize solid substrates. By comparative evaluation of a large number of Pleurotus ostreatus strains, we were able to identify and select those strains with the greatest biodegradation capacity and bioconversion efficiency of culture substrates into high-quality edible mushrooms.
